New Future Scenarios website

futurescenarios.org banner

Future Scenarios (www.futurescenarios.org) explores David Holmgren's futurism and scenario planning work for an era of peak oil and climate change.

Many futurists are looking at Facebook, robot pets and other i-fads, whereas David has been studying a much bigger picture. He draws on 30 years of permaculture thinking to address the fundamental resource and environmental constraints facing humanity. I think he is the most important futurist in the world right now,” said Adam Grubb founder of Energy Bulletin (www.energybulletin.net with over 400,000 visitors a month.)

CAPE
(Cuba - Australia Permaculture Exchange)

Roberto Perez works as a permaculture and environmental educator for the Foundation for Nature and Humanity, Cuba’s major environment organization based in Havana. He featured in the award-winning documentary film The Power of Community about how Cubans survived and thrived during the fuel and food crisis of the early 1990’s. He is spending 2 months touring Australia sharing the Cuban experience through public presentations, national and regional conferences. News of the visit is generating a phenomenal response nationally.

David Holmgren and his partner Su Dennett worked closely with  Roberto Perez during their teaching and public speaking tour of Latin America last year.  They have been involved in organising the local event because they know Roberto is an inspiring and articulate public speaker and that the Cuban experience is one of the few positive examples of how society might creatively adapt the to the now inevitiable severe and imminent impacts of Peak Oil and Climate Change.

The passing of a Permaculture elder

Joe Polaischer was the creator, with partner Trish Allen, of New Zealand permaculture icon, Rainbow Valley Farm. He died on the 14th Febuary 2008 from a brain tumor. Joe was also one of the most experienced and influential teachers of permaculture, not only in New Zealand but also in Europe and Japan.

Joe's death is a great loss to the global permaculture community but his legacy will continue to fuel positive action into the future.
